We’re seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong hands-on HVAC and mechanical design expertise to lead engineering projects for commercial, healthcare, institutional, and municipal facilities. This position combines technical design leadership with construction-phase support, from developing system concepts to resolving field issues and approving final engineering deliverables. Key Responsibilities • Design HVAC and mechanical systems tailored to each building’s operational needs, performance requirements, and applicable codes. • Calculate heating and cooling loads, evaluate ventilation requirements, select equipment, and assess energy performance. • Develop mechanical plans, technical specifications, equipment schedules, design calculations, and construction-ready documentation. • Serve as Engineer of Record when assigned, overseeing technical quality and engineering decisions throughout the project lifecycle. • Integrate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems. • Assess building conditions, regulatory requirements, and project constraints to determine suitable engineering approaches. • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and proposed design changes for technical compliance. • Perform site visits, field evaluations, and construction observations to verify design intent and identify installation issues. • Troubleshoot design conflicts, code concerns, and field conditions, developing solutions that maintain system performance and compliance. • Evaluate alternative designs to improve cost efficiency, energy use, reliability, and maintainability. • Support system commissioning, inspections, testing, and final project handover. • Sign and seal engineering documents where authorized by licensure and applicable regulations. • Maintain accurate engineering records and ensure deliverables meet technical specifications and quality standards. • Work directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to keep projects aligned. Requirements • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required. • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field. • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; 10+ years preferred. • Direct HVAC and mechanical MEP design experience in commercial, healthcare, institutional, municipal, or comparable facilities. • Strong technical knowledge of load calculations, ventilation design, HVAC equipment selection, energy efficiency, and mechanical codes. • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or equivalent mechanical design tools. • Experience producing and reviewing engineering calculations, construction drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules. • Understanding of building system integration and coordination across engineering disciplines. • Strong technical judgment, analytical skills, troubleshooting ability, and communication. • Experience collaborating with building owners, architects, contractors, and engineering teams. • Background in healthcare, municipal, institutional, veterinary, or other complex facilities is preferred. • Extensive direct design involvement is essential. Candidates whose experience is primarily project management, administration, or coordination without substantial HVAC and mechanical design work will not qualify. Benefits • Competitive salary based on experience • Health, dental, and vision insurance • Retirement savings plan with company contribution • Paid time off and company holidays • Continuing education and professional development support • Opportunity to engineer complex commercial and institutional facilities • Collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment • Long-term career development and advancement opportunities
