Role Title: Senior Engineer – Electrical – Verification & Validation Delivery We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we are doing something that has never been done before. We are revolutionising an industry. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity for people excited by a major engineering challenge and the legacy it will create. The Opportunity: Take technical responsibility for the verification and validation of complex electrical power systems for the Rolls-Royce SMR power station, If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you. This role may suit you through one of two routes. You may be an experienced electrical or power-systems engineer with some experience of verification, testing, assurance, quality or technical substantiation. Alternatively, you may bring substantial V&V, design assurance or engineering assurance experience, supported by a working knowledge of electrical power systems. You do not need to be an expert in every area listed. We are looking for the technical judgement to assess requirements, methods and evidence, with sufficient electrical knowledge to provide credible challenge and identify when specialist input is required. You will work in the Development Engineering organisation which is accountable for demonstrating that the power station design meets its objectives and requirements. We define, commission, review and integrate the verification evidence that underpins design delivery, including analysis, testing, demonstration, qualification and research. About the role: This is an electrical engineering role within the Verification & Validation (V&V) Delivery team. You do not need to have held a job title containing “V&V”, You will combine electrical power-systems knowledge with experience of verification, validation, testing, quality, assurance or technical substantiation. Your existing depth may be primarily in electrical engineering or primarily in V&V and assurance, but you must be able to make credible, evidence-based judgements about electrical requirements and their verification. You must be able to judge whether electrical requirements, methods, analyses, tests and evidence are technically sound and sufficient. You will take technical responsibility for coordinating and delivering V&V for electrical systems and components, working with a team of engineers and subject matter experts. The scope may include HV and LV power networks (as per BS-7671), transformers, switchgear, cables, protection and control, uninterruptible power supplies, batteries, standby or emergency generators, power quality and electrical system studies. Working with electrical system owners, safety specialists, analysts, component teams and suppliers, you will develop proportionate verification strategies, define acceptance criteria, identify evidence gaps and make clear, auditable compliance judgements. We’ll Need You To: • Develop and maintain verification and validation strategies for allocated electrical systems, capabilities or components • You are not expected to have experience across every electrical system or study listed. Your depth might be in protection, HV or LV distribution, generation, standby power, UPS and batteries, testing and commissioning, electrical studies or another relevant specialism. • Translate electrical and safety requirements into clear verification activities, methods, acceptance criteria and evidence needs. • Review electrical engineering analyses and studies, such as load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, motor starting, voltage and frequency performance. • Define objectives and requirements for tests, demonstrations, inspections, similarity assessments and analytical activities, then agree delivery with internal teams and suppliers. • Act as an intelligent customer by challenging assumptions, methods, input data, model suitability, test coverage and the quality of evidence. This may also include setting early equipment qualification expectations for use in nuclear power plants. • Assess evidence against requirements, record compliance judgements and identify gaps, risks, dependencies and further work. • Support verification of safety claims and produce clear technical reports suitable for internal governance and regulatory engagement. • Manage technical interfaces across electrical, C&I, safety, mechanical, civil, commissioning and supply-chain teams. • Perform independent technical checks and mentor engineers to improve the consistency and quality of V&V delivery. Key Skills: We recognise that no candidate will bring equal depth across every electrical system, study and verification method listed. Your expertise may be concentrated in one or more areas, and we will consider the overall balance of your electrical and V&V experience. Essential experience • A degree or equivalent substantial experience in electrical engineering, power systems, systems engineering or a closely related discipline. • A strong professional foundation through at least one of the following routes: • significant electrical or power-systems experience, combined with experience of verification, testing, quality, assurance or technical substantiation; or • significant V&V, design assurance, quality or engineering-assurance experience, combined with a sound working knowledge of electrical power systems. • Experience interpreting requirements and assessing objective engineering evidence against requirements. • Experience working across interfaces and constructively challenging technical specialists, suppliers or design teams. • Ability to explain complex electrical matters clearly in written reports, technical reviews and multidisciplinary discussions. • A methodical, systems-thinking approach to technical risk, assumptions, traceability and configuration. Relevant electrical knowledge may include power generation or distribution, protection, transformers, switchgear, cables, UPS and battery systems, standby generation, essential supplies
